Rubio Monocoat quotes 30 to 50 m² per litre because only one thin layer goes on. As a guide from Rubio SA, a 130 ml set covers about 5 m², a 390 ml set 15 to 18 m² and a 1.3 L set 30 to 50 m². Actual usage depends on the wood species, the sanding grit and how absorbent the timber is, so Rubio recommends doing a sample first to work out the exact quantity. Buy a little more than the calculation; the leftover is what you will use for future repairs in the same colour.

Yes. Oil Plus 2C bonds molecularly with the top fibres of the wood, so once those fibres are saturated the surface will not take any more oil. That is why there are no overlaps or starting marks, why a second coat is not needed, and why the excess must be wiped off until the surface feels non-sticky. Any oil left lying on the surface will not cure properly. If a surface later wears or needs a colour repair, clean it and re-oil with Oil Plus 2C in the original colour.

There are 40 standard colours, from Pure and Natural through the whites, greys and browns to Black and Midnight Sky, and they can be blended with each other. Every colour shows the grain and looks different on different timbers: Rubio's colour card is on oak, so a pine, meranti or saligna piece will read lighter, warmer or darker. Rubio recommends a test on identical sanded wood before you commit. The 130 ml set is the practical way to test a colour on a sanded sample of your own timber. For aged, smoked or two-tone looks, apply Pre-Aging or Precolour Easy first.

Accelerator is Rubio's component B. It is mixed into Oil Plus 2C at roughly 3 parts oil to 1 part Accelerator, does not change the colour or the usage, and gives quicker drying and curing, better wear resistance and a stronger, more water-resistant finish. Rubio recommends it for projects, especially floors, worktops, stairs and damp rooms, and the sets we sell are supplied as A plus B. Mix only what you can use within 4 to 6 hours, because the mixture starts to cure in the tin.

Dry to the touch in 12 to 24 hours, 80% cured after 2 days and fully cured after 5 days at normal room temperature (Rubio's working range is 8 to 30°C). You can vacuum a floor after 2 days, but wait 5 days before cleaning with water and Universal Soap and before putting rugs, furniture pads or heavy use on it. Cold rooms, poor ventilation and high humidity slow curing down.

DuroGrit. It is Rubio's one-coat exterior oil for all outdoor wood, horizontal and vertical, including decking, garden furniture, cladding and gates, and it is the only one of the two rated for foot traffic. WoodCream is a wax cream for vertical wood only, such as cladding, fences, shutters and carports, where its water-repellent pearl effect keeps the surface self-cleaning. DuroGrit covers 8 to 15 m² per litre on new timber, dries in 1 to 3 hours and cures in 3 days; apply it between 10 and 30°C, out of direct sun, with no rain expected for 10 hours. New planed timber must first be cleaned with Cleaner Exterior to break the mill glaze.

Rubio designed DuroGrit to be maintained without sanding: wash the deck with Soap Exterior and water, let it dry, and when the colour starts to fade or a traffic path wears, apply DuroGrit in the same colour to the worn area. Rubio's advice is to buy slightly more than the calculated amount so you have the same tin for touch-ups. WoodCream colour lasts 5 to 10 years depending on colour, timber and exposure; the pearl effect gradually fades after about 5 years, and a fresh coat can go straight over the old one. For floors, use Universal Soap: 50 to 100 ml in 10 litres of water, mop damp rather than wet, rinse with clean water and let it dry for about 15 minutes. Clean with soap no more than once a week, because overdosing leaves a film that traps dirt. For tables and worktops, Surface Care is the same soap in a ready-to-use spray. If a table or worktop starts to feel dry, Refresh Eco restores the oiled surface without adding colour (not for floors or stairs, it makes them slippery). Grease, lime or water marks and the black marks tannin-rich timbers develop have their own Rubio removers.
