Sharpening stones, honing guides, strops and powered sharpening systems for keeping chisels, plane irons, knives, drill bits and turning tools cutting cleanly. This is the full sharpening range at Power Tool Services: Tormek wet grinders and jigs, King and Shapton waterstones, Veritas and Axminster honing guides, Multi-Sharp and Drill Doctor bit sharpeners, and Einhell wet grinders and chain sharpeners. It suits furniture makers, carvers and turners.
Choosing sharpening stones and sharpening tools
- Hand stones: a coarse grit (#800 to #1200) sets the bevel, a fine grit (#4000 to #8000) polishes it. A combination stone such as the King #800/6000 covers both on one block.
- Honing guides: hold a chisel or plane iron at a repeatable angle so every stroke lands on the same bevel. Veritas Mk.II guides take standard and narrow blades.
- Powered systems: Tormek T-4 and T-8 wet grinders run slow and cool, with jigs for knives, gouges, planer blades, axes and scissors. The Einhell TC-WG 200 is the entry-level wet grinder.
- Drill bit sharpeners: Drill Doctor units resharpen bits from 2.5mm up to 19mm; Multi-Sharp attachments run off a bench grinder or a drill.
- Finishing: leather honing wheels, honing compound and honing oil take the burr off and give the final polish.
