Sanding belts for portable belt sanders in the sizes South African machines actually use: 75 x 457mm, 75 x 533mm, 100 x 560mm, 100 x 610mm and 100 x 915mm. Power Tool Services stocks Klingspor LS 309 XH and CS 311 Y belts in two-packs and Bosch belts in three-packs and ten-packs, in grits from coarse stock removal to fine finishing. Floor fitters, joiners, boat builders and furniture restorers will find the belt for their Makita, Bosch, Einhell or Metabo sander here.
Choosing sanding belts
- Size first: the belt must match the sander exactly. 75 x 533mm fits most 75mm sanders (Makita 9903, Bosch GBS 75, Einhell TE-BS); 75 x 457mm fits compact 75mm machines; 100 x 610mm fits most 100mm sanders.
- Grit: 40 to 60 for levelling and stripping, 80 to 120 for general flattening, 150 and finer before a finish. Work through the grits rather than jumping.
- Backing: Klingspor LS 309 XH is an aluminium oxide belt on cloth for wood, paint and light metal. CS 311 Y is a heavier polyester cloth belt that stands up to metal. Bosch Best for Wood belts are made for timber and board.
- Glass and stone: the Klingspor CS 321 X 30 x 533mm belt is for glass and stone edges on narrow-belt machines.
