Cordless sanders from Festool, Bosch Professional, DeWalt, Einhell and Hikoki: random orbital sanders in 125 mm and 150 mm, orbital sheet sanders, belt sanders, delta sanders and a cordless drywall polisher. A battery sander is the tool for installers and finishers who sand on site, on scaffolds, or anywhere a lead and an extractor hose are in the way. Most are bare tools for the battery platform you already run.
Choosing a cordless sander
- Cordless random orbital sander: the all-rounder for flat panels, doors and furniture. 125 mm is lighter and uses cheaper discs; 150 mm covers more area and is standard for Festool and Bosch professional finishing.
- Cordless orbital sander: a rectangular sheet sander (Bosch GSS 18V-18, Festool RTSC 400, Einhell TE-OS) for getting into corners and along edges.
- Cordless belt sander: DeWalt DCW220, Bosch GBS 18V-75 and Hikoki SB3608DA for fast stock removal on doors, floors and beams. The Einhell belt file is a narrow-belt tool for metal and tight spots.
- Battery platform: Festool 18 V, Bosch 18 V and 12 V, DeWalt 18 V XR, Einhell Power X-Change and Hikoki 18 V and 36 V are all represented, so buy the tool that matches your batteries.
Bosch cordless sander vs Festool
The Bosch GEX 18V-150 and GEX 12V-125 are strong, sensibly priced random orbit sanders for trade use, and the GSS 18V-18 is one of the few cordless sheet sanders on the market. Festool ETSC and RTSC sanders cost more, sand finer with less vibration, and can also run from the mains with Festool's plug-in adapter when the battery is flat.
