MIG welding nozzles, contact tips, shrouds and tip adaptors are the parts that wear out first on any MIG torch, and running them worn costs you weld quality and shielding gas. This collection holds the Matweld consumable range for Binzel-pattern (BNZ 15, 25, 36, 38/501 and 40) and Tweco-pattern (TWC #4 and #5) torches, plus gas cutting nozzles, heating nozzles, welding nozzles and plasma torch nozzles for the rest of the workshop.
Choosing MIG welding nozzles and tips
- Identify your torch first. Binzel-style torches use BNZ-coded shrouds and M6 or M8 threaded tips; Tweco-style torches use TWC 14H or 15H tips with the matching #4 or #5 nozzle and insulator. The two families do not interchange.
- Match the contact tip to the wire. Tips are stocked in 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.4mm bores. Too large a bore gives poor contact and an erratic arc.
- Tip adaptors and insulators sit between the tip and the torch neck. Replace the insulator when the nozzle starts to run hot or arcs to the work.
- Gas cutting nozzles come in ANM and PNM patterns from #0 to #6, in short and long versions, with Harris 6290NX sizes for Harris torches.
Welding torch consumables: when to replace
Swap the contact tip when the bore goes oval or spatter builds up inside, and replace the shroud when it is burnt back or packed with spatter the reamer cannot clear. Keeping a packet of each on the shelf is cheaper than a ruined weld. Other MIG torch parts are in MIG welding accessories, the machines themselves in welding machines, and earth clamps and electrode holders in welding clamps and holders.
