A workbench, work table or saw stand is the base everything else in the workshop sits on, and the right one depends on whether it stays put or travels to site. This collection covers Festool MFT multifunction tables and underframes, Kreg and Bora portable work supports, Metabo, Bosch and Makita mitre saw and table saw stands, SawStop outfeed and sliding tables, Kreg router tables, and the bench dogs and sawhorses that go with them.
Choosing a workbench or work table
- Fixed or portable. The Festool MFT/3 folds its legs and sets up in a minute. The Bora Centipede collapses to a bag, and the Festool Mobile Workshop MW 1000 adds Systainer storage and a worktop on wheels.
- Dog holes. A 20mm dog-hole grid (Festool MFT, Bora Centipede table top) turns the top into a clamping surface for track saws, routers and assembly. Add UJK 20mm dogs or our own 12mm guide dogs.
- Saw stands. A mitre saw stand with extendable supports (Bosch GTA 2600, Metabo KSU 251 and KSU 401, Makita WST06) keeps long boards level and the saw at a safe height. The Bosch GTA 6000 and Makita WST03 do the same for table saws.
- Sawhorses and supports. Bora Centipede workstations, Speedhorses, Kreg Track Horses and Metabo trestles carry sheet goods and timber for cutting,.
Router tables and table saw extensions
The Kreg Precision Router Table System, with or without a router lift, turns a plunge router into a shaper for mouldings, joinery and edge profiles. SawStop sliding crosscut tables and the folding outfeed table extend a cabinet saw for panel work. See the full range in router tables and mitre saws, and hold work down with bench dogs and holdfasts or a bench vice.
