A heat gun, or hot air gun, strips paint, shrinks tubing and wrap, softens adhesive and vinyl, thaws pipes and dries filler without a flame. This collection holds corded heat guns from Bosch Professional, Makita, Hikoki, Dewalt, Einhell and Metabo, plus a Metabo cordless hot air gun, from simple two-stage models to LCD units with precise temperature settings. It suits painters, electricians, vehicle wrappers, plumbers and DIYers.
Choosing a heat gun
- Simple or step-up. The Bosch Professional Heat Gun GHG 180 060194D020 and the Hikoki Heat Gun RH600T are straightforward guns for paint stripping and shrink wrap. The Hikoki Heat Gun RH650V is the step-up model in the Hikoki pair.
- Power. The Einhell Hot Air Gun 2000W TH-HA 2000/1 gives full 2000W output for fast stripping. The Dewalt 1800W Heatgun D26411-QS is a solid 1800W workhorse.
- Precise temperature. The Metabo Hot Air Gun HGE 23-650 LCD shows the set temperature on a display, which matters for shrink tubing, plastic welding and wrapping where too much heat ruins the material.
- Cordless. The Metabo Cordless Hot Air Gun HG 18 LTX 500 runs on Metabo batteries for shrink wrapping and quick jobs away from a plug.
Heat gun or hot air gun: is there a difference?
No. Heat gun and hot air gun are two names for the same tool. The difference that matters is control. A two-stage gun gives a low and a high setting, which covers paint, shrink wrap and thawing. A variable or LCD gun lets you dial in a temperature, which is what you want for heat shrink on cable, vinyl wrapping and bending plastic.
