Planer blades for hand-held power planers and thicknessers, including reversible 82mm blades, HSS knives for bench machines, Festool spiral blades and carbide inserts for spiral cutter heads. A sharp pair is the difference between a glassy surface and tear-out. Brands stocked are Makita, Bosch, DeWalt, Metabo, Festool, Axminster and our own PTS carbide inserts.
Choosing planer blades
- 82mm hand planers. This is the standard width for Makita, Bosch, DeWalt and Hikoki planers. Makita D-07945 TCT and D-16346 HSS, Bosch PRO planer knives and TCT reversible blades, and DeWalt DT3905 HSS are all stocked.
- HSS or TCT. HSS blades take a keener edge and suit clean softwood and hardwood. TCT (tungsten carbide) blades last far longer in MDF, chipboard and resinous timber but cost more.
- Thicknessers. Makita 305mm HSS blades fit the 2012NB, Metabo blades fit the DH 330 and DH 316, and Axminster resharpenable HSS knives fit the JWP-12 and AC318BT class of machines.
- Spiral heads. 15mm x 15mm x 2.5mm carbide inserts and tungsten carbide cutter blocks replace worn cutters on spiral and helical heads.
- Festool. Spiral blades HW 65 for the EHL 65 and HW 82 SD and HS 82 RW for the HL 850.
Makita planer blades and the rest of the machine
Makita planer blades are the most-asked-for item here because the KP0800 and KP0810 are in so many workshops, and the 305mm set for the 2012NB thicknesser is a stock line. Find the machines in planers and thicknessers, or go straight to the Makita 2012NB.
