Generators for sale in South Africa are mostly bought for one reason: keeping lights, fridges, gates and tools running when the grid goes down. This collection holds the TradeProfessional range of petrol 4-stroke generators, sized for homes, small shops and building sites that need power tools on site.
Choosing a generator
- Output. The TradeProfessional Generator TP 2800 4S-2800W runs lights, a fridge, a TV and a laptop, or one power tool at a time. The TradeProfessional Generator Tp 6000 4S-5500W and Tp 7000 4S-6500W handle a full household load or a site with several tools and a compressor.
- Starting load. Motors draw far more on start-up than when running. Add up what will start together, not just what runs together, before you pick a size.
- Run time and tank. Bigger units carry more fuel and run longer between fills. For overnight load shedding, size up rather than down.
- Portability. The TP 2800 is the one person can move alone. The TP 6000 and TP 7000 are heavier and belong on a trolley or in a fixed spot.
Which size generator do I need
List every appliance or tool you want running at the same time and note its wattage from the rating plate. Add roughly a third again for the start-up surge of fridges, pumps and motors. A home that only needs lights, Wi-Fi, a fridge and a TV is comfortable on the TP 2800. A home with a borehole pump, geyser or several tools needs the TP 6000 or TP 7000. Run the generator outdoors, never in a garage, and let it warm up before loading it.
These generators are in stock at our Claremont, Cape Town shop and ship nationwide by courier. Our staff run generators and site tools every day and can help you size one. For tools to run off it, see corded power tools and compressors.
