Wire brushes for angle grinders and drills, used to strip rust, paint, scale and weld spatter from steel before welding, painting or galvanising. The collection covers M14 cup brushes and wire wheels for grinders, 6mm shank cup brushes and wheels for drills, in steel, brass and stainless wire. Nearly everything here is Bosch Professional, with a Makita cup brush alongside.
Choosing a wire brush
- Fitting. M14 thread screws straight onto a 115mm or 125mm angle grinder. 6mm shank brushes chuck into a drill or die grinder.
- Crimped or knotted. Crimped wire is softer and suits paint, light rust and cleaning. Knotted (twisted) wire is aggressive for heavy scale, weld cleaning and surface preparation on structural steel.
- Wire material. Steel wire for general work. Brass wire is softer and leaves no sparks or scratching on softer metals. Inox (stainless) wire is for stainless steel and aluminium, where carbon steel wire would leave particles that rust.
- Size and wire gauge. Cup brushes from 50mm to 100mm, wire wheels from 75mm to 115mm, with wire thickness from 0.3mm for finer work to 0.8mm for the heaviest knotted cups.
Wire brush for grinder or wire brush for drill?
A wire brush for a grinder removes material fast over large flat areas and is the choice for fabrication shops. A wire brush for a drill runs slower, reaches into corners and is safer on thin or delicate work. Always run a brush within the speed rating marked on it. Browse angle grinders to pair with M14 brushes, the full cutting discs, grinding discs and wire brushes range, or cordless drills for shank brushes.
