A cordless multi tool is the oscillating tool you reach for when nothing else fits: flush cutting door jambs, plunging into drywall, trimming pipe and sanding into corners. This collection holds cordless oscillating multi tools from Dewalt, Bosch Professional, Makita, Hikoki, Einhell and Festool, plus the Dremel cordless rotary tool. It suits fitters, renovators, flooring installers and keen DIYers.
Choosing a cordless multi tool
- Battery platform. Most of these are bare units, so match the brand to the batteries you own. The Makita 18V Cordless Multi Tool DTM50ZK Solo, the Bosch Professional Cordless Multi Tool GOP 185-LI Solo and the Hikoki 18v Cordless Multi Tool CV18DA Basic all drop onto their brand's batteries.
- Brushless or brushed. Brushless motors run longer per charge and hold speed under load. The Dewalt 18V XR Brushless Multi Tool Bare +29 Acc DCS355NT and the Einhell Professional Cordless Multifunctional Tool TP-MG 18 Li BL Solo are the brushless options.
- Daily or occasional. The Festool Cordless oscillator VECTURO OSC 18 E-Basic-Set 576592 is for installers who use an oscillator all day. The Einhell Multi Tool 18V VARRITO is a simple, light tool for occasional jobs.
- Detail work. The Dremel Cordless Multi Tool 8240 is a rotary tool rather than an oscillator, suited to engraving, polishing and small grinding jobs.
Multi tool sets and kits
Where a listing says Solo, Bare or Basic, it is the tool only. Kits and sets include a battery, charger and usually a case, so read the listing. The Dewalt DCS355NT ships with 29 accessories but no battery. If you already own batteries from one brand, buy the bare tool.
