Choosing a wood glue
- Water resistance. Titebond Original and Alcolin Cold Glue are interior adhesives. Titebond II and O3a Maxbond D3 are water-resistant for kitchens and bathrooms. Titebond III, O3a Maxbond D4 and Brummer Balcotan are the waterproof options for outdoor furniture, doors and garden projects.
- Open time. Titebond Speed Set and Alcolin Fast Set grab quickly for small repairs and edge banding. Titebond III gives you longer to close a large glue-up with many clamps.
- Gap filling and finish. Titebond Quick & Thick fills gaps on uneven joints. Titebond Translucent dries clear on light timber. Titebond Melamine bonds laminates and melamine board.
- Instant repairs. O3a cyanoacrylate in thin, medium and thick grades and Titebond Instant Bond with activator handle knots, chips and small mitres. The Soudal 2C Mitre Kit is the two-part option for skirting and architrave corners.
- Volume. Titebond III comes in a 5kg bucket with a pump for production shops.
Alcolin wood glue versus Titebond wood glue
Alcolin is the local standard: affordable, easy to find and fine for most interior work. Titebond is the American PVA most furniture makers move to for its stronger bond, shorter clamp time and clearly defined grades. Both are in stock in several sizes. Browse Titebond and Alcolin by brand, then grab a glue brush or bottle and enough clamps to hold the joint while it cures.
