Velcro sanding discs for random orbital sanders in the sizes South African workshops actually run: 125mm and 150mm, plus 90mm and 225mm for detail and drywall sanders. We stock paper, ceramic and net discs from Bosch, Festool, Smirdex, Klingspor, 3M, DeWalt and Metabo, sold in 5 and 10 packs for small jobs or boxes of 50 and 100 for trade use.
Choosing sanding discs for your orbital sander
- Diameter: 125mm is the common DIY and trade size, 150mm suits Festool, Metabo and larger Bosch sanders, 225mm fits drywall sanders like the Bosch GTR.
- Hole pattern: 8-hole 125mm and 6, 15 or 17-hole 150mm discs must line up with your pad for extraction. Multi-hole and net discs fit any pattern.
- Abrasive type: aluminium oxide paper (Bosch C450, Klingspor PS33) for general wood and paint. Ceramic (Smirdex 740, 3M Cubitron II) cuts faster and lasts longer on hardwood and metal. Net discs (Smirdex Ceramic Net, DeWalt Extreme Mesh, 3M Xtract) resist clogging on paint and filler.
- Grit: 40 to 80 for stripping, 120 to 180 for flattening, 240 and up before finishing. Most lines here let you select the grit on the product page.
125mm sanding discs vs 150mm sanding discs
Check the pad on your sander before you buy. Bosch GEX 125 and most DIY orbitals take 125mm; Festool ETS 150, Metabo SXE 450 and Bosch GEX 150 take 150mm. A 150mm disc covers more area per pass, so it pays off on big panels and floors, and boxes of 50 bring the per-disc cost down in either size. If you need a replacement backing pad or a new machine, see our sanders range. For hand sanding and sheet sanders, go to sandpaper and sanding sheets, and for triangular pads see delta sanding paper.
