Scroll saw blades in pin-end and plain-end patterns for fretwork, marquetry, intarsia, puzzles and fine metal piercing. Power Tool Services stocks Olson blades from the USA, Niqua Pebeco, Twister and Goldsnail blades from Germany, and Dremel Moto-Saw blades, all in multi-packs. From hobby fretwork to jewellery blanks in brass, the right tooth count is here.
Choosing scroll saw blades
- Pin end or plain end: check your saw first. Pin-end blades (Olson 7, 9, 15, 18.5 and 20 TPI) suit older and entry-level machines with pin holders. Plain-end 125mm (5 inch) blades fit most modern saws with clamp holders and allow finer inside cuts.
- Teeth per inch: 7 to 10 TPI for thick softwood and fast rough cuts; 15 to 25 TPI for hardwood and ply; 36 TPI and up for veneer, thin ply and tight detail.
- Reverse tooth: a few teeth at the bottom point upward, so the underside of the cut stays clean with less tear-out on plywood and MDF.
- Spiral blades: Olson 36 and 41 TPI spiral blades and the Niqua Twister cut in every direction without turning the workpiece, useful for complex fretwork.
- Metal: Olson 20 TPI metal blades and 48, 56 and 61 TPI jewellers piercing blades, plus Niqua Goldsnail blades for brass, copper and silver.
Olson scroll saw blades and scroll saw sanders
Olson makes up most of this range and also supplies scroll saw sanders: 125mm abrasive strips in 80 to 220 grit, 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch wide, pin end or plain end, which mount in the blade holders so you can sand inside cut-outs on the machine. If you are still choosing a machine, see our scroll saws, or compare coping saws for hand fretwork. See also jigsaw blades.
