A dust mask is the cheapest piece of safety gear in the workshop and the one most often left on the shelf. Choosing a dust mask or respirator
- Disposable for short jobs. The 3M 8810 is a cupped FFP2 disposable mask for sanding, sweeping and cutting MDF. It is cheap enough to replace daily and sold singly or in a box of 20.
- Reusable half mask for regular work. The 3M 6000 Series half mask takes twin bayonet filters. Fit it once, then replace filters as they load up. This is the right choice if you sand, spray or grind every week.
- P3 filters for fine dust. The 3M 2138, 5935 and 6035 are P3 R particulate filters, the highest particulate class, for hardwood dust, silica from concrete and masonry, and welding fume.
- Vapour cartridges for finishing. The 3M 6055 organic vapour and 6059 multi-gas filters are for solvent-based lacquers, two-pack paints and adhesives. Add a 5935 pad and 501 retainer on top to catch spray mist as well.
