    Excellent workshop machine

Definitely a heavy duty workshop machine (heavy to transport to a jobsite, but not impossible, so better for workshop) , and with some very small setup adjustments, is capable of very accurate work, even on small items - just take safety precautions to hold them firmly, without getting hands close to the blade. Excellent capacity in depth and width of cut, and the mitre and bevel cuts are accurate using the preset stops. The depth stop for cutting dadoes/slots works very well with the smooth sliding mechanism - just remember the cut travel changes, so a spacer is needed between the fence and the workpiece, so the cut goes all the way across the board. Quality of cut with the included blade is very smooth. Laser cut lines just need getting used to to get exactly on the needed cutline. Two improvements I want to make are making my own zero-clearance insert plate for cleaner cuts, especially veneered plywood and making a new “boot” on the dust collection intake to catch more of the dust, because any mitre saw makes a huge amount of fine dust, so connection to a shop-vac is essential if working indoors. The material clamping needs to be carefully done, because it sometimes jumps loose - could improve with use. Great product and Power Tool Services delivery service blows me away every time I buy from them.

The closest you can get to a Festool Kapex (without buying a Festool Kapex)

I've been using the GCM12GDL for just over 3 years now and it is a great sliding mitre saw. The articulated glide mechanism is great to conserve space in a small workshop since you don't need to leave room for the guide rails used on other models. The large cut capacity is very useful and once set up correctly it is possible to get table-saw levels of cross cut accuracy. Mitre and bevel controls are at the front of the tool, making it simple to do quick adjustments. Downsides: It is heavy - probably not the best tool when using in a mobile environment. Dust collection, especially for wide cuts, is not great. I've made several small updates to mine with some success. Would've been nice if Bosch did a bit more work in this area, since better dust collection would really take the competition to Festool!

    Great service, again!

Ordered Friday, delivered Monday at 09:30 in Pretoria! Assembled stand and unpacked the machine and started mounting on the stand. The longer captive bolts, which are to be used for this model machine turned out to be just too long and stopped the horizontal bevel going all the way left and right. I used the shorter ones provided at the back and this helped, but I will probably cut the front ones shorter in time, as there were only two shorter ones provided. I have not yet tried it out, as I have to re-organise my space and check the setup is all correct - this machine is huge! The 12” blade and gliding arm provide the great cutting width, and with that comes the size to support it all. Mechanism is smooth as silk and I am looking forward to doing some accurate work and using the grooving stop to do joints. I am also that guy who reads the manual, so I’ll give feedback as I put this machine to work...
