‘Fantastic’ surface grinder.

This is a powerful 1500W 125mm surface grinder with an effective dust suppression shroud. It takes a few minutes to get used to the ‘action’ so practice before you dive into the special job. I found a swirling circular motion with very light pressure almost gliding over the surface works best but beware it will quickly burrow into the surface if kept still. Dust suppression is very effective when coupled with the appropriate vacuum/ dust extractor. It produces very large volumes of dust so it will kill small vacuums unless the correct fine dust filters or bags are used. Even then I suggest you don’t use your wife’s Miele!
Dust extractors with auto clean filter function work brilliantly. Even better is to use an inline cyclone dust collector for bigger jobs.
It’s a fixed speed with constant speed control. The supplied grinder cup is only really good for hard concrete but for most other jobs various designs of aftermarket grinder cup are available and work very well on this grinder. I have mainly used this for removing old thin-set tile adhesive after removing tiles, old contact adhesive and pitch adhesives from parquet flooring and carpets, old plaster from walls and surface screeds from floors during renovations. I use PCD ‘flower cups’ of the appropriate button size for adhesives and paint, ‘boomerang’ cups (100grit) for fine smoothing of plaster and concrete surfaces.
I searched for a long time to find the right tool (weight, power, size, effectiveness) at a reasonable price point and this new Bosch has not disappointed. This tool is indispensable for renovation work and along with the new Bosch wall and ceiling long reach sander are my best tool purchases BUT I emphasise they MUST be used with a good dust extraction system, preferably with an inline cyclone.
In a word a ‘fantastic’ tool!
