Workhorse - even in a power tool dominated workshop

The Stanley 220 is a great, cost-effective, block plane. I have a hybrid workflow, dominated by power tools, but with joinery cleanup handled by hand tools. The 220 is extremely versatile to remove small amounts of material in this application. Mine is around 7 years old now and still working perfectly. Even on end grain. That said, I did spend considerable amount of time to flatten the sole that was warped out-the-box and square up the sides (not functionally necessary, but I wanted to also remove the very deep machine marks and give it a mirror finish). Adjustments are simple to do, but care should be taken to not also adjust the iron angle when adjusting the depth. Compared to more boutique brands - this is definetely good value for money if you are willing to put in a little bit of effort for initial setup.
