Silent air compressors use oil-free, low-rpm pumps so they can run in a garage, workshop or studio without ear protection and without oil mist in the air line. This collection brings together the quiet oil-free models we stock from MatAir, TradeAir and Einhell, in tank sizes from 24L for airbrushing, nailers and tyres up to 100L and 150L for sanders, spray guns and continuous use.
Choosing a silent compressor
- Tank size. 24L (MatAir AIR3000, TradeAir 24L) suits brad nailers, blow guns and inflating. 50L (MatAir AIR3020, Einhell TE-AC 270/50 Silent Plus) keeps up with staplers and short spray jobs. 100L and 150L (MatAir AIR3050, TradeAir 100L and 150L) are for orbital sanders, HVLP guns and anything that runs for minutes at a time.
- Noise. Silent oil-free units typically run around 60 dB, roughly a normal conversation, against 90 dB or more for a direct-drive piston compressor.
- Oil-free. No oil changes and clean air for painting and food or dental work, at the cost of a shorter pump life under heavy daily use than a lubricated belt-drive unit.
- Air delivery. Match the litres per minute at working pressure to your most demanding tool, not the motor wattage.
Silent vs standard compressors
A standard direct-drive or belt-drive compressor gives more air per rand and tolerates all-day trade use, which is why panel shops and site teams still buy them. A silent compressor is the right choice when the compressor shares a room with people: home workshops, retail fit-outs, dental and tattoo studios, and any job where the client is in earshot. See the full range on our air compressors page.
Silent compressors are in stock at our Claremont, Cape Town shop with nationwide courier delivery. Our staff run these units in the workshop daily and can help you size the tank and air delivery to your tools.
