A big angle grinder is the machine for cutting paving, steel sections and rebar, and for heavy grinding where a 115 mm or 125 mm grinder runs out of power. This collection holds the Bosch Professional 180 and 230 series large angle grinders used by builders, fabricators and demolition crews.
Choosing a large angle grinder
- Disc size. The Bosch Professional Angle Grinder GWS 24-230 takes 230 mm discs for the deepest cuts in paving and steel. The Bosch Professional Angle Grinder GWS 24-180 P takes 180 mm discs and is a little lighter to hold overhead.
- Motor rating. The Bosch Professional Angle Grinder GWS 2200-230H is a 230 series grinder built for long cutting sessions. The GWS 24-230 is the step up in power for all-day site work.
- Switch and handle. Paddle-switch models like the GWS 24-180 P stop the moment you release your grip. Lock-on switches suit long grinding runs. Check which you prefer before you buy.
- Weight and control. Big grinders are heavy. A soft start and a vibration-damped side handle make a real difference over a working day.
Which big grinder for which job
For cutting concrete pavers, kerbs and thick steel in one pass, a 230 mm grinder is the right choice because the disc reaches deeper. For grinding welds, cleaning castings and cutting lighter section, a 180 mm grinder gives you most of the power with less weight. Many contractors keep one of each. Whichever you choose, pair it with the correct disc for the material and keep the guard fitted.
These grinders are in stock at our Claremont, Cape Town shop and we courier nationwide. Our staff run these machines in the workshop every week and can advise on discs and guards. For cutting and grinding discs see Klingspor, or browse the full range of corded power tools.
