Finishing consumables — the brushes, applicators, pads, cleaners and abrasives that decide whether a good finish looks good. In stock in Cape Town, delivered nationwide.
Applying the finish
Hardwax oils such as Osmo Polyx®-Oil go on thin and even, which a cheap brush will not do. Use the correct Osmo applicator fleece, floor brush or roller for floors, and a quality brush for joinery. Too much product is the most common mistake — an oil that is applied thickly stays tacky instead of curing.
Preparation and abrasives
Sanding grit sequence matters as much as the finish. Work up through the grits and do not skip steps, or the scratch pattern shows through once oil goes on. For open-grained timber, seal first with a sanding sealer so the topcoat sits evenly.
Cleaning and maintenance
An oiled floor is maintained, not stripped. Osmo Wash and Care is the routine cleaner, Intensive Cleaner 8019 handles heavier soiling, and Care & Repair Paste fixes local scratches. Using ordinary household soap on an oiled floor is the usual reason it starts looking patchy. For decks, Osmo 8025 Decking Cleaner and Rustins Deck Cleaner before re-oiling, and Wood Reviver Power-Gel to bring greyed timber back.
Advice
If you are unsure which applicator or grit to use for your finish, ask us — getting this part right costs very little and makes the difference between a finish that lasts and one you redo next year.
