DeWalt batteries for the 12V Max, 18V XR and 54V FLEXVOLT platforms, from the compact 1.7 Ah PowerStack to the 15 Ah FLEXVOLT. These are genuine DeWalt packs, sold singly and in twin kits with a charger, for tradespeople who need a spare on charge while the other is on the tool. Every 18 V and 54 V battery here fits any DeWalt XR tool.
Choosing a DeWalt battery
- DeWalt 18V battery capacity: 2 Ah for drivers and drills where weight matters; 4 Ah and 5 Ah for general use on saws, grinders and SDS drills; 8 Ah for all-day work on high-draw tools. The 5 Ah with oil-resistant case is for mechanics and workshops.
- DeWalt PowerStack battery: pouch cells instead of cylindrical cells, so the 1.7 Ah pack is lighter and the 5 Ah pack delivers more power than a standard 5 Ah XR on tools that pull hard.
- DeWalt FLEXVOLT battery: switches automatically between 18 V and 54 V. Use it on 18 V tools as a 6, 9 or 12 Ah pack, or on FLEXVOLT mitre saws, table saws and grinders at 54 V. The 15 Ah pack is for 54 V tools that run all day.
- 12V Max: the 3 Ah pack for the compact 12 V drills, drivers and sub-compact tools.
DeWalt 18V battery vs 20V battery
They are the same battery. DeWalt sells the XR platform as 18 V in South Africa and 20V Max in the United States; the difference is how the voltage is quoted, not the cells. A battery marked 20V Max fits and runs your 18 V tool and vice versa. The same applies to FLEXVOLT 54 V and 60V Max.
