Backing pads for random orbital sanders, orbital sanders, delta sanders, polishers and angle grinders, from Festool, Bosch, Makita, Mirka, Rupes, Metabo and Smirdex. A worn or torn backing pad is the usual reason a sander stops holding its discs or starts leaving swirl marks, and it is a five-minute swap. This collection covers replacement pads for the sanders we sell and service, plus interface pads and polishing pads.
Choosing a backing pad
- Diameter: 125 mm and 150 mm for random orbital sanders, 90 mm and 93 mm delta pads for detail sanders, 100 mm to 180 mm M14 pads for angle grinders, and 225 mm for drywall sanders.
- Hardness: hard pads keep edges flat and are best for levelling; medium is the general-purpose choice; soft and super-soft pads follow curves and mouldings without digging in.
- Hole pattern and mount: match the hole pattern and mount to your sander (Festool MJ2 and FastFix, Bosch GEX and PEX, Makita by part number) or extraction suffers.
- Interface pads: a soft foam layer that sits between pad and disc for sanding profiles or finishing with fine grits.
Orbital sander backing pad vs sanding pad for grinder
A random orbital sander pad has a velcro face and a bearing-mounted hub; it is designed to be driven off-centre and must be matched to the sander. A sanding pad for a grinder threads straight onto the M14 spindle and takes fibre discs or velcro discs at grinder speed, so always check the maximum rpm printed on the pad. The Bosch 115 mm and 150 mm M14 pads and the 180 mm pad rated to 8500 rpm are the grinder options here.
Pair your pad with velcro sanding discs, see all sanders, or browse Festool sanders.
