Schneestern Tri-Battle cycling ramp built with Festool cordless tools

For the Tri-Battle Royale between triathletes Jan Frodeno and Lionel Sanders in Germany's Allgäu, sports-facility builder Schneestern designed and built the "Canyon Turn", a steep banked cycling curve 75 metres long and 4.5 metres high.

The structure took 19,000 screws, 10.5 cubic metres of timber, 96 textured coated boards and 300 construction hours. Project manager Julian Gessenauer's team built a prototype first to prove the structure, then prefabricated the components and assembled them on site in three days as a modular system so every section lined up.

"The right material and the right tool" was the team's rule throughout, and the whole build ran on cordless tools, powered on site by the Festool SYS-PowerStation: 3,680 watts continuous, 11,000 watts peak, 1,500 watt-hours of capacity.

Frodeno went on to set a cycling world record on the day, covering 180 km in 3 hours 55 minutes 22 seconds.
