Laura Kampf's DIY sofa bed built with Festool tools

Maker Laura Kampf shows how plain plywood becomes a sofa bed that converts from seating to a bed in seconds, with storage built in. Comfort, flexibility and smart storage drove the design.

"Having a good idea is one thing, but implementing something is quite another," says Kampf. The project is a good example of how execution separates a concept from a finished piece of furniture.

Festool publishes the construction plan as a free download, taking you from raw sheet material to the finished piece, and the full build is on Laura's YouTube channel alongside the drawings.

Festool tools used in the build

  • TSC 55 cordless plunge saw on the FS guide rail for breaking down the plywood
  • PSC 420 cordless jigsaw for curves
  • OF 1010 router and OFK 500 edge router
  • CXS 2.6 cordless screwdriver
  • ETS EC 125 random orbital sander

Every one of these is stocked at Power Tool Services in Claremont, Cape Town: see our Festool saws, routers and sanders.
