Very versatile, punches above its weight

The RT0700 is extremely versatile and can certainly be used for much more than edge details. This kit comes with the plunge base, the fixed base and the tilt base. The fixed base is great for edge work, while the plunge base converts the unit into a very useful general purpose router - inlays, template routing, joinery. It only has a 710W motor, so you generally have to make multiple passes. But that is good practice regardless of the router's power. I found it to be ideal for inlays, template routing and joinery since the much smaller router base makes it easier to take to the workpiece with less setup to make sure the router is balanced. I have several routers, both hand held and in tables, but this is my only 1/4" hand held router and between the fixed and plunge bases I don't really see the need for a larger 1/4" router. The flat top and spindle lock makes cutter changes much easier and the build quality is excellent. Height adjust for the fixed base is probably the only area where the tool could be improved. The locking mechanism is not integrated in the height adjustment (rack/pinion) - so it is possible to accidentally change the depth again while locking the motor to the base. But where depth is important the plunge base should be used and it has a conventional 3-turrent depth stop that works well.
